Glory bolster defence as veteran retires

Perth Glory boss Kenny Lowe has added experienced former Central Coast Mariners defender Jacob Poscoliero to his squad for the Hyundai A-League 2017-18 season.

With injuries to Shane Lowry and Alex Grant plaguing the Perth defence this season, Poscoliero is a welcome addition who can play in a variety of roles across the backline and can also operate in midfield.

The 27-year-old has spent a large portion of his professional career plying his trade in the Italian lower tier with Veneto-based side San Dona and Serie C outfit Bassano Virtus between 2010-2013.

The versatile defender then returned home to New South Wales to compete with NSW National Premier League (NPL) side Blacktown City, where he made 35 appearances in a standout season that saw the club claim 2014 NPL title and Waratah Cup.

His impressive form for Blacktown earned the Wollongong-born player another pro contract at the Mariners where he played 47 times for the Hyundai A-League side.

Meanwhile, Veteran Richard Garcia has announced his retirement from professional football, after a special 20 year career in the game.

Richard Garcia was one of Glory's best in their Elimination Final win over Melbourne City.

Garcia played for eight clubs through his career, most notably appearing for Hull City in their two-year stint in the English Premier League between 2008 and 2010. He also represented the Socceroos on 17 occassions, two of those at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
