Perth Glory’s pre-season preparations are set to go international later this month when Tony Popovic’s squad head to Malaysia for an eight-day training camp.
Glory hit the road on Thursday, August 9 and travel to Sarawak where they will make use of some of the best training facilities in Asia as well as playing two friendly games.

The first of those fixtures is scheduled for Saturday, August 11 when Malaysian Premier League side Sarawak FA will provide the opposition.
The second game will see Glory face the Sarawak State Team on Wednesday, August 15, with both matches taking place at Stadium Negri in Sarawak’s capital city, Kuching.
A familiar face will take charge of Sarawak FA in the form of Ian Gillan, a former member of Glory’s coaching staff, while another ex-Glory coach, Alan Vest, enjoyed a successful six-year stint at the club during the 1990s.
In addition to these managerial connections, links between the two clubs have developed rapidly in recent months and Glory club advisor Tony Hughes feels that the upcoming trip will only serve to further enhance this burgeoning relationship.
“It’s an exciting development for all concerned,” Hughes said.
“Sarawak is currently in transition with the management looking to build the club into a powerhouse of Malaysian football.
“A reciprocal relationship between the clubs offers the opportunity for Sarawak to learn from our academy and marketing development structure and for Glory to build a fan base in Asia.
“It also means that we have access to excellent facilities that can help us fulfill our Asian Champions League aspirations in the future.”
Glory coaches will also be taking part in a Sports Symposium while on the trip, sharing knowledge on strength and conditioning and training regimes and taking part in a panel discussion.
