Brisbane Roar attacker Emily Gielnik believes Brisbane Roar’s competitive culture and positive vibes has been vital as they look to complete the double in the Westfield W-League 2017/18 Season.
With the Premiers Plate’ already secured, Mel Andreatta’s side have now turned their attention to winning the Championship over the next two weeks.
It starts on Sunday with a blockbuster semi-final against two-time defending champions Melbourne City at Perry Park.
Gielnik will be a key player if Roar are to progress to the decider and the Westfield Matildas striker says a simple team ethos has helped drive their success this season.
“We’re a one-in, all-in kind of team,” Gielnik said.
“There have been good, positive vibes all season. The key thing is that everyone gets along both on and off the field which I think has been key to our success.
“We have such a strong squad and nobody’s spot is safe, Mel [coach Mel Andreatta] has some tough decisions to make every week.
“That’s really important and has driven that competitive culture.”
Roar are playing finals football for the first time in three seasons and head into the clash with City on the back of six matches unbeaten.
While much of their success this campaign has been built on a solid defence, ominously Roar have found their scoring boots over the last two weeks.
In the penultimate match of the regular season they beat Adelaide United 4-2, before backing it up with another four-goal against Canberra United on Sunday to secure the Premiership.
“We get in such good positions but we had been lacking in finishing those chances and put games to bed,” Gielnik said.
“Scoring so many goals in the last few weeks has not only helped us get the three points but has upped our confidence.”
Roar have played City twice during the regular season, winning the first clash 2-0 before the sides played out a tight and tense goalless draw at AAMI Park last month.
