Current table position
Western Sydney Wanderers: 12th
Adelaide United: 5th
Round 21 result
Western Sydney Wanderers: 2-2 draw against Brisbane Roar (A)
Adelaide United: 1-1 draw against Central Coast Mariners (A)
Both Western Sydney and Adelaide come into this matchup after good performances in games where they dominated possession but both ended in frustrating draws last round.
The Wanderers showed some real fight to come back from 1-0 down to be 2-1 up at half time through Brandon Borrello and Bozhidar Kraev goals.
However, they couldn’t stay ahead, conceding in the 78th minute to have the game end 2-2.
The Reds had plenty of chances, but in the end only Ethan Alagich’s swerving finish found its way into the back of the net.
Adelaide could have made the divide between the top five and the bottom seven almost unassailable with a win against Central Coast last week, but the draw leaves the door ajar for a late season run from one of the lower teams – which the likes of the Reds need to be wary of.
Johnny Yull was Adelaide’s hero when these sides met in December, scoring in stoppage time to take them to a 3-2 victory.
Auckland FC v Macarthur FC

Macarthur FC: 8th
Round 21 result
Auckland FC: 2-1 win over Newcastle Jets (A)
Macarthur FC: 4-1 loss to Melbourne Victory (A)
Auckland have made the title fight very interesting following their streak-breaking win over Newcastle last weekend. The Jets looked to be cruising, but Auckland now sit just one point behind and with a better goal difference.
English frontman Sam Cosgrove scored twice against the Jets to retake the lead in the golden boot race from his teammate Jesse Randall.
Macarthur’s poor run of form continued against Melbourne Victory last week with a fourth straight loss.
Luke Vickery scored his fourth goal of the season, but that wasn’t enough to compensate for their leaky defence.
Macarthur will get goalkeeper Alex Robinson and defender Tomislav Uškok back from their suspensions, but Mile Sterjovski will want to see defensive improvement across the board if they’re to stop Auckland’s attack.
When these sides met in January, they played out a 1-1 draw with Lachlan Brook scoring for Auckland before Uškok equalised for Macarthur.
Brisbane Roar v Wellington Phoenix

Brisbane did well to get a point out of Western Sydney, hitting the front early through Greek winger Georgios Vrakas before going 2-1 down at half time. Defender Niall Thom deflected the equaliser in to mark his Isuzu UTE A-League debut with a goal.
Wellington earned their first win since the middle of January with two second half goals taking them past Perth Glory.
Corban Piper grabbed them the lead, before an own goal from former Phoenix midfielder Nicholas Pennington sealed the victory.
Last time Wellington found success last time they came up to Suncorp, with Ifeanyi Eze, Kazuki Nagasawa and Paulo Retre all scoring in the 3-0 win.

Melbourne Victory extended their unbeaten run to six when they trounced Macarthur on Sunday night.
Damien Da Silva opened the scoring with an own goal for his old side before Denis Genreau coolly finished to make it 2-0. Macarthur scored one before half time to make it interesting, but goals for Sebastian Esposito and Charles Nduka put the result beyond all doubt.
Central Coast held on for dear life against Adelaide with goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne making eight saves and centre-back pairing Brad Tapp and James Donachie combining for seven blocks.
They hit the front through Sabit Ngor on the counter, but eventually they were breached to make it 1-1.
An Ali Auglah goal made the difference when these sides met in February, Central Coast taking the win 1-0.

Round 21 result
Sydney FC: 1-0 loss to Melbourne City (H)
Newcastle Jets: 2-1 loss to Auckland FC (A)
Newcastle’s 10 match unbeaten streak came to an end last week in Auckland, Clayton Taylor’s eighth goal of the season not enough to reel in their premiership rivals.
Sydney were quite lacklustre in their midweek clash against Melbourne City with some good goalkeeping from Harrison Devenish-Mears and some post luck stopping it being more than a 1-0 loss.
Newcastle will be keen to bounce back from their wobble and re-assert themselves as the top side this season, while Sydney will be looking to hang on to third spot with Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United both breathing down their necks.
Sydney took the points with a 4-1 win when these sides played in November – an Al Hassan Touré hat-trick and a goal from Patrick Wood undoing Ben Gibson’s early goal.
Newcastle were 2-0 winners in their December clash thought with goals from Will Dobson and Xavier Bertoncello.

Round 21 result
Perth Glory: 2-0 loss to Wellington Phoenix (A)
Melbourne City: 1-0 win over Sydney FC (A)
Perth have gone from looking at creeping into finals to trying to avoid finishing last, with their loss to Wellington leaving them just one point above Western Sydney Wanderers.
Their last win came on the 31st of January against Auckland and they’ve only managed three points from a possible 18 since.
Melbourne City looked better on Tuesday night than their 1-0 win suggested, with a number of near misses and some big stops from Sydney’s keeper.
Max Caputo’s winner moved City back up to seventh on the table just two points behind Central Coast in that all-important sixth spot.
There’s been plenty of goals in this fixture this year; City won 4-0 in October with two goals from Caputo and one each from Zane Schreiber and Kavian Rahmani, while Perth won the December matchup 3-1 with a Tom Lawrence hat-trick before a stoppage time consolation goal from Andrew Nabbout.
