Frustration for Wanderers star after draw in Perth

Mitch Nichols says Western Sydney Wanderers didn’t do enough with their possession against Perth Glory as they were held to a third straight Hyundai A-League draw.

Despite scoring the fastest goal in club history to take the lead at nib Stadium, it took a Brendon Santalab goal midway through the second half for Wanderers to clinch a 2-2 draw.

While both sides had chances to win it in an absorbing contest, Nichols felt the Wanderers only had themselves to blame for not taking maximum points.

“We dominated them, we just didn’t create enough chances and we weren’t tight enough at the back again,” the midfielder told Fox Sports.

“We had enough of the ball we just didn’t do enough in the final third.

“We got that early goal then we conceded off a set piece which we’ve been working on all week. So it’s pretty disappointing.”

While frustrated with his side’s lapse in concentration in defence and wastefulness in front of goal, Nichols believes a point on the road is a good sign.

Argentine marquee Nico Martinez scored his first goal for the club and set up Santalab’s equaliser in his best showing of the season.

The draw means the Wanderers are unbeaten in their last four games and sit sixth on the ladder ahead of Saturday night’s huge clash with Melbourne Victory at Etihad Stadium.
