It was new signing Mackenzie Hawkesby that stole the show, with the former Western Sydney Wanderers forward scoring a match-winning double.

“I’m learning so much about the winning culture within the club so I was just happy to step out on the field, do my best and have a good attitude,” said Hawkesby.

“I really enjoyed the game. I got the two goals from two really great assists from Caitlin Foord too, and I was happy with the overall performance of the team.”

Glory retain the Challenge Cup

Glory struck twice in the first seven minutes through Moreno and Doeglas, before McKenna struck a quickfire brace after the break.

City, Victory in six-goal thriller

The Melbourne Derby looks set to be a cracker in 2019/20 if Sunday’s 3-3 draw between City and Victory is any indication.

The two local rivals played a behind-closed-doors friendly at the City Football Academy, with Victory producing a strong second-half fightback to earn a draw.

City were in control in the first 45 minutes, taking a 3-1 lead to the break courtesy of goals from Mari Pastor, Emily van Egmond and Maja Markovski, while Natasha Dowie scored Victory’s goal.

An own goal five minutes after the break and a last minute strike by Grace Maher past Lydia Williams earned Victory a share of the spoils.
