Friday Night Football Preview: A-League, Westfield W-League – March 26

Two of the A-League’s in-form sides face off against each other as Melbourne City meet Western Sydney Wanderers, after Sydney FC attempt to secure the Westfield W-League Premiers Plate with a win against Canberra United in a Friday night double-header.

All eyes will be on AAMI Park come Friday night as free-scoring City battle it out against a Wanderers outfit who are on a hot streak of their own.

Wanderers sit in second spot ahead of this showdown after having enjoyed three wins on the bounce. Mitch Duke has been the star man up front, with three goals in his last two appearances.

The visitors will have the added incentive of knowing they will go top of the A-League ladder for the first time this season if they overcome City by three or more goals.

City meanwhile have been relentless with five straight wins and four consecutive clean sheets to show for what has been a purple streak for Patrick Kisnorbo’s side.

Jamie Maclaren is in the form of his life after he notched his 11th goal of the campaign in their 2-0 victory against leaders Central Coast Mariners on Monday night.

The last meeting between these two sides ended 2-0 to City at Bankwest Stadium at the beginning of March with Maclaren helping himself to a brace.

Before the A-League action kicks off, attention will focus on the Westfield W-League as Canberra United host Sydney FC at Viking Park (kick-off 5:35pm AEDT).

The equation for the Sky Blues is simple – beat Canberra and they will be crowned Westfield W-League Premiers.

However, a determined United outfit stand in their way with their finals series hopes hanging in the balance.

They sit in fourth ahead of this clash however they have a resurgent Victory – who have an extra game in hand – breathing down their neck.
