Western United will look to continue its charge up the A-League table when travelling to face Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium on Friday, April 30.
The sixth-placed Green and Black have games in hand on every A-League side bar three, and are beginning to gather momentum after securing four wins from six games leading into Matchweek 19. Mark Rudan’s team can go above Macarthur FC and Adelaide into fourth place with a win over the Reds on the road.
One team with a games-in-hand advantage over Western United, however, is Brisbane Roar. A 4-0 win over Central Coast Mariners brought Warren Moon’s side just one point behind the Victorian side, offering pressure from below for the travelling side to take maximum points against the Reds.
Adelaide will be looking to bounce back after losing 2-1 to Wellington Phoenix last time out. It was a second loss in five games for Carl Veart’s side following a six-game winning streak put together between Matchweek 9-14.
These two teams last met in the opening game of the 2020/21 season, playing out a 0-0 draw at GMHBA Stadium. It was the third fixture between the two sides in A-League history – Western United lost the first encounter 4-3 before answering back with a massive 5-1 victory at Coopers Stadium in March, 2020.
