Michael Beauchamp is another journeyman of the Hyundai A-League, having played for Central Coast, Melbourne Heart and Sydney FC before being named captain of Western Sydney Wanderers. He formed a resolute central defence combination with Nikolai Topor-Stanley during the Wanderers inaugural season, with the pair being part of a backline that conceded a miserly 21 goals during the regular season.
Beauchamp was part of the Socceroos 2006 World Cup squad, where he was one of only two A-League players selected, and has earned 22 caps for Australia. His one and only goal in the national colours was when he scored the opener in Australia-s must-win game against Thailand in the group stage of the 2007 Asia Cup.
His football career has also taken him overseas, most notably signing for FC Nuremberg in the Bundesliga after his World Cup campaign, as well as playing in the Netherlands and United Arab Emirates.
Playing for the Wanderers has been somewhat of a homecoming for Beauchamp, having grown up in Wakeley in Sydney-s south-west. He will have to be on his game come July 20th when he may be tasked with marking the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van-Persie.
