Ahead of Sunday’s clash with Juventus, the Foxtel A-League All Stars will play the Young Socceroos in a friendly on Tuesday night at WIN Stadium in Wollongong.
And adding to the excitement is the prospect of Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero playing his first match on Australian soil since his last Hyundai A-League appearance with Sydney FC in April.
The Foxtel A-League All Stars skipper, who arrived on Sunday night, is set to train with the rest of the squad today (Monday) and if he shows no sign of ill-effects is likely to get some game time against the Young Socceroos.
With less than a week until they face the reigning Serie A champions, Gombau would love to give Del Piero a run as players from all 10 clubs try to form partnerships as quick as possible.
And what an experience it would be for some of Australia’s best young players to share the field with the 2006 World Cup winner and the other big names from the Hyundai A-League.
Judging by recent results Paul Okon’s Young Socceroos side will give the Josep Gombau’s team a perfect tune-up for the battle with the Bianconeri.
The Young Socceroos produced some great performances and results at last month’s 2014 NTC invitational in California, beating both Chile and Bermuda and drawing with the USA.
