Jon McKain says he’s returning to Australia after his two-year spell in Malaysian club football.
It’s understood the 34-year-old former Adelaide United and Wellington Phoenix defender could be back in Australia as early as this weekend.
McKain, capped 16 times by the national team, has spent the last two years with one of the biggest clubs in Malaysia, Kelantan.
Speaking exclusively with Asian football expert John Duerden, the Brisbane-born McKain said the time was right to head back home.
“I was never wanting to stay any longer but I will finish my contract and move on,” said McKain, who has also played in Romania and Saudi Arabia.
“I will return to Brisbane for a while to see my family and look for the next step. I am open to many possibilities.”
This news will no doubt be of interest to Hyundai A-League clubs looking to sign an experienced Australian central defender.
