Fixture update to Round 11 Melbourne Victory v Western Sydney Wanderers

The Australian Professional Leagues (APL) tonight announced that tommorrow’s Westfield W-League 2020/21 Round 11 fixture between Melbourne Victory and the Western Sydney Wanderers FC will now be played at AAMI Park behind closed doors.

APL Commissioner, Greg O’Rourke, said that the decision to move the match was made due to the playing surface not meeting the standard required for the Westfield W-League.

“The playing surface at Lakeside Stadium had been damaged as the result of a previous event and whilst every endeavour has been made by the ground staff to repair the ground and make it suitable for tomorrow night’s game we have made a decision in consultation with stakeholders including the Clubs involved and the Match officials to move the match,” said O’Rourke..

“As a result, the fixture has been moved to AAMI Park.

“Due to the late change, it is not possible for Melbourne Victory to obtain a spectator COVID-safe plan approved by Government in time to allow fans to attend the match in person.

“Whilst we understand that this is disappointing for fans of the Westfield W-League and in particular Melbourne Victory who not to be able to attend, it was imperative that we moved to a venue where we are comfortable that the playing surface is suitable for our players and match officials.

“Fans will be able to watch the match on FOX SPORTS 505, Kayo Sports and the MyFootball Live App,” concluded O’Rourke
