Postecoglou shows lightning strikes twice with two remarkable 36-game feats

Thirty-six. It’s not just any number.

It’s the record for the longest unbeaten streak at the top level of any Australian sporting code – held by Ange Postecoglou’s Brisbane Roar.

Between September 18, 2010 and November 26, 2011, Brisbane went 36 matches without defeat in the A-League Men, surpassing the national club record that had been held for 74 years at rugby league’s Eastern Suburbs.

During that time, ‘Roarcelona‘ – boasting likes of Thomas Broich, Besart Berisha, Michael Theo, Erik Paartalu, Matt McKay, Matt Smith and Henrique – also won the Premiership and Championship as Postecoglou changed the landscape of the game Down Under.

Fast forward to now and Postecoglou has repeated the remarkable 36-match feat, this time with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic have not lost in the league since September last year – 30 victories and six draws after a 2-0 win over Hearts, having dethroned Rangers in 2021-22.

The defending champions, who have former A-Leagues star Aaron Mooy in the squad and Harry Kewell on the coaching staff, have won their opening four matches of the season to be two points clear.

To celebrate Postecoglou’s latest unbeaten streak, here’s a look back at that famous run with the Roar.
