Pace is key when it comes to FIFA and with the EA SPORTS’ FIFA 17 set to launch soon, we look at the top 10 speed demons in the Hyundai A-League. You may be surprised who makes the list and who’s the quickest.

10: Nick Fitzgerald – Melbourne City
FIFA pace rating: 85, overall: 64
Fitzgerald not only has a great engine and ball-playing ability in midfield but also a swift turn of pace when he gets going and tough to catch when in full flight.
9: Jamie Maclaren – Brisbane Roar
FIFA pace rating: 85, overall: 70
Maclaren looks like he will become a FIFA sensation this year. Very few defenders can deal with his speed and with plenty of goals in him as well, he’s the all-round package.
8: Chris Harold – Perth Glory
FIFA pace rating: 86, overall: 62
The 24-year-old had a breakout season in 2015/16 and is starting to live up to his promise. Speedsters like Harold can win games on their own on their day, scoring goals or providing for teammates.
7: Bruce Kamau – Melbourne City
FIFA pace rating: 86, overall: 63
Burst onto the scene with Adelaide United last season with his astonishing turn of speed down the flanks. Just 21, could still get faster – which is a scary thought – and should be a revelation for City this season.
6: Roy Krishna – Wellington Phoenix
FIFA pace rating: 88, overall: 67
The flying Fijian is almost unstoppable when running at opposition players, which many defenders have found out the hard way in the Hyundai A-League over the last few seasons.
5: Connor Pain – Central Coast Mariners
FIFA pace rating: 89, overall: 60
May not have become a regular at Melbourne Victory, but no one can deny Pain’s speed. Hoping for a fresh start in Gosford, with his supersonic burst of pace, looks a smart acquisition.
4: Kosta Barbarouses – Wellington Phoenix
FIFA pace rating: 89, overall: 70
The Kiwi international is reaching his peak as a footballer. When he puts the after-burners on, no defender can keep up with him.
3: Kwabena Appiah – Central Coast Mariners
FIFA pace rating: 91, overall: 57
Hasn’t had much of a chance in the Hyundai A-League but has speed to burn. Give him and inch to get in behind you and he’s gone before you know it.
2: Mitch Austin – Melbourne Victory
FIFA pace rating: 91, overall: 64
Blink and you will miss him. The jet-heeled winger is almost impossible to catch when he gets going. With piercing cross ability, Austin is a real menace down the left flank.
1: Fernando Brandan – Melbourne City
FIFA pace rating: 91, overall: 65
John van ‘t Schip is on to a winner here. The Argentine is the fastest player in City’s squad and will complement the likes of Fornaroli, Cahill and Brattan superbly. If it’s speed you need, Fernando’s your man.
