Football Federation Australia (FFA) has praised the behaviour of Melbourne Heart and Melbourne Victory and Melbourne Heart supporters following the pulsating derby game in the Hyundai A-League at AAMI Park.
“The night was a showcase of everything that’s great about the Hyundai A-League,” said Head of Hyundai A-League Lyall Gorman.
“We had fantastic atmosphere, passionate and vocal fans, a sea of colourful scarves and banners and, most of all, a superb and compelling football match at a world-class venue.
“I pay tribute to the club members and supporter groups who make these occasions so extraordinary and thank the Victorian football community to making the Melbourne derby an instant classic on the sporting calendar.
“FFA joins with the Victoria Police in praising the overall behavior of the fans, but we are disappointed that a flare was ignited inside AAMI Park.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy in this regard and our working group, including FFA, Victoria Police, the clubs, the venue and our security advisers, will review all available video footage and seek eye-witnesses to identify the offender and apply a five-year ban.”
