Coinciding with FIFA Fair Play round for 2008, all Hyundai A-League and National Youth League match officials will display a RESPECT badge on their shirts from this round onwards.

The FFA RESPECT initiative aims to continue the ethos of fair play by all participants, symbolise the new match day protocols taken this season and importantly reinforce the message of RESPECT for match officials and the significant role they play in football.

“The values inherent in the spirit of fair play include respect for team mates, respect for the coach, respect for the referee and respect for fans – values that are relevant to everything we do,” according to FFA CEO, Ben Buckley.

“By match officials wearing the RESPECT badge, we want to remind everyone involved in the game or watching the game of those values and of the importance of respect, fair play and teamwork.”
