Football Federation Australia (FFA) has issued the Western Sydney Wanderers FC with a show cause notice under the National Code of Conduct following the ignition of two flares at the southern end of Allianz Stadium during the Sydney Derby on Sunday evening.
The club has until 5pm (AEDT) Thursday 1 March 2018 to respond to the notice.
FFA will take into account the initial response by the club to the incidents noted in the notice and any other measures it takes before making a determination.
Head of the Hyundai A-League & Westfield W-League, Greg O’Rourke, said he was working closely with Western Sydney Wanderers FC following the incident.
“We will continue to work with all our clubs, venues, security and the police authorities to maintain a safe and secure environment for the vast majority of football fans who attend matches and support their team in a peaceful and good natured way week in and week out,” he said.
