FFA Cup wrap: Top tier clubs pushed in dramatic night

Adelaide City pushed Melbourne Victory to the brink in the FFA Cup Round of 32 clash at Marden Sports Complex in Adelaide, but their hopes of a major Cup-set were dashed by Anthony Leban’s 96th minute winner.

Victory keeper Jarrad Tyson had a busy night at the office, but, in the end, Leban netted the winner for Tony Popovic’s side for the second week running the Cup, converting from the spot with almost the last kick of the game.

Elsewhere, Central Coast overcame the early dismissal of Mark Birighitti to edge out Wollongong Wolves and make the FFA Cup quarter-finals.

The goalkeeper left his side playing with 10 men for 70 minutes, and they trailed three minutes later when Lachlan Scott put the NPL side 1-0 up.

Nick Montgomery’s side powered home, however, with maiden goals to Moresche and Harry McCarthy ensuring their progress at WIN Stadium.

At ABD Stadium, Mathew Leckie opened his Melbourne City account in a tight contest with Hume City, won 1-0 by the A-League champions.
