Portuguese winger Fabio Ferreira has boosted Adelaide United’s already impressive season, signing a two-year extension to stay at the club.
Less than 48 hours after Argentine Jeronimo Neumann also signed on for two more years, Ferreira has also agreed to terms for the next two Hyundai A-League seasons, ending a period of uncertainty for some of the club’s most exciting players.
Plucked from second division NSW club Dulwich Hill by the Reds back in August, Ferreira has made an immediate impact in the Hyundai A-League, playing every game and scoring twice.
The 23-year-old, who spent a year at English Premier League giants Chelsea, has settled in well to Adelaide and is delighted to be given the opportunity to secure the next stage in his career.
“I-m very happy. I really like the club and it-s very important for me to be able to sign a new deal,” Ferreira said.
“The club has been really good for me, as well as the team and the fans, I really like being here and I-m excited that I will be staying in Adelaide for a longer period.”
Adelaide Coach John Kosmina said he was pleased the former Portugal Under 19 representative had found his feet in the Hyundai A-League and he was confident he could be a player that would give the Reds an extra dimension in the attacking half of the pitch.
“It-s terrific that we-ve been able to secure Fabio for another two years,” Kosmina said.
“He came here knowing it was an opportunity to show what he is made of and in the first ten rounds he hasn-t disappointed.”
“I think he has proved that he can compete at this level, and with his pace and skill on the ball, I-m sure he is going to continue to cause a lot of defenders in the A-League headaches so I-m glad that we-ve managed to keep him here.”
