After a breakout season in the Isuzu UTE A-League, Central Coast Mariners defender Jacob Farrell has committed his future to the club, signing on to spend the next three years in Gosford.
The teenage left-back made 25 league appearances last season for the Mariners, scoring on debut against Newcastle Jets. It was his first ALM campaign after stepping up from the club’s academy, where he spent the majority of his teenage years developing under current Mariners head coach Nick Montgomery and his assistant Sérgio Raimundo.
Farrell follows the lead of fellow academy products Josh Nisbet, Dan Hall and Max Balard in re-signing for the club this off-season.
Farrell’s agent Paddy Dominguez told club media there’s been “plenty of interest from big teams in Europe” as the 19-year-old shines under Montgomery at the Mariners – but has “no doubt” his fresh contract – tying him to the ALM club until 2025 – will ensure Farrell continues to develop into a brilliant player with “a very bright future.”
Farrell says he’s eager to express his gratitude for the faith instilled in him by his hometown club.
“It’s an honour to re-sign for the club that gave me an opportunity in professional football. I hope to repay the Mariners with my efforts on the field over the coming years,” Farrell said.
“I’d also like to thank Monty [Nick Montgomery] and Serg [Sérgio Raimundo] for believing in my ability and giving me a chance on the big stage.”
Montgomery added: “Jacob is an outstanding young player and already in one season has shown that he has a massive future. He is a pleasure to work with every day and while quiet off the field he has a big impact on the field.
“He has a level of consistency far beyond his years and he will only get better with further development. We are delighted that Jacob has committed his future to the club as this speaks volumes for what we are trying to do at the Mariners.”
