Sydney FC Head Coach Frank Farina says he can sense a different mood around the club with the big kick off in the Hyundai A-League 2013/14 season only a week away.
The Sky Blues boss believes the players are beginning to smell the start of the new season and that is having an effect on the way they are preparing.
“In general you can feel the atmosphere changing,” he said. “The approach to training has always been very, very good but you can sense it [the change].
“It-s one of those things as the season nears everyone gets a bit excited I think.”
Farina is entering his first full season as the Sky Blues Head Coach and believes the division couldn-t be more evenly balanced with Sydney facing the Newcastle Jets next Friday (11thOctober) at Allianz Stadium.
“It-s going to be a very tight competition as I predicted,” he continued.
“Every game is tough, whether it-s against any of the other nine teams, as it was last year, so to get off to a good start is fantastic if you can manage it.
“Newcastle Jets are going to be hoping to go one better than last year.
“They are a good side but if we play to our potential we can get off to a good start.”
The former Socceroos Head Coach has also urged the fans to get behind the club and help start the season successfully.
“Sydney-s crowd is always fantastic,” he said. “They are very vocal and very intelligent supporters in terms of football.
“Playing at home at the end of last season we were last seven or eight games undefeated and the crowd played a big part in that.
“Hopefully they can pick up where they left off and hopefully we can too.”
