Scottish football giant Celtic has selected a near full-strength squad to take on Hyundai A-League side Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on July 12.

New Celtic manager Tony Mowbray’s squad will comprise nearly all of the Celtic team that went within a whisker of claiming another Scottish Premier League title this year.

Included in the squad for the friendly is Qantas Socceroos striker Scott McDonald, who despite failing to register a goal for his nation yet, has scored 50 goals in his two seasons for the Scottish club.

The squad contains a host of players with international experience for nations such as Scotland, Republic of Ireland, Poland, Greece, Germany and Japan.

Much will be on the line for many of the Celtic squad, the Roar match one of only three matches for new coach Mowbray to have a good look at his squad before the commencement of the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds.

The Official Ambassador for the Roar-Celtic game, Willie Wallace, commended Mowbray for sending his strongest squad possible to Brisbane.

“Everyone will be keen to impress Tony (Mowbray). Reputations will count for nothing, and they will all start with a clean slate,” he said.

“This is the first time in about 30 years that Celtic has visited Australia and I know everyone associated with the club is keen to reward their many fans in this part of the world.”

“I am looking forward to a great game of football in front of a very vocal and friendly crowd at Suncorp Stadium.”
