Defender Fabio has left Sydney FC after both parties agreed to mutually terminate his contract on Monday.

The Brazilian managed 18 games for the Sky Blues this season, of which he started in 17, but coach Frank Farina said he couldn’t guarantee the 28-year-old regular senior action in 2013-14.

“I’d like to thank Fabio for his service to Sydney FC during the last 12 months,” said Farina.

“We are looking to change things going forward and we couldn’t guarantee Fabio the regular first-team football he requires.

“On behalf of the club, I’d like to wish him all the best for the future.”

Before joining Sydney, Fabio played 23 matches for the Melbourne Victory in 2011-12.
