Former Sydney FC defender Matt Jurman is set to take on his old club in the AFC Champions League after his Suwon Bluewings side secured a spot in the Sky Blues’ group for the 2018 competition.
Suwon comfortably came through a playoff on Tuesday night, thumping Vietnamese outfit Thanh Hoa 5-1 in Korea.
The win means Suwon join the Sky Blues, Chinese Super League powerhouse Shanghai Shenhua FC and Japanese powerhouse Kashima Antlers in Group H.
It means Jurman – who has four caps for the Caltex Socceroos – is likely to come face-to-face with his ex-Sydney FC teammates on February 14 when the Sky Blues host Suwon at Allianz Stadium in the opening match of the group stage.
Jurman played 96 games for Sydney FC over two stints at the club, departing midway through the 2016/17 campaign to move to the K-League.
Meanwhile, Melbourne Victory also learned their final group opponents, with CSL giants Shanghai SIPG earning a spot in Group F.
Vitor Pereira’s Shanghai overcame Thai outfit Chaingrai United overnight to join Victory, Korea’s Ulsan Hyundai and Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale in a tricky group.
Victory’s ACL campaign begins on Tuesday, February 13 when Kevin Muscat’s men host Kawasaki at AAMI Park.
