Hyundai A-League Championship winner John Hutchinson has joined Seattle Sounders as an assistant coach for their reserve team.
Hutchinson, who was an assistant coach at the Mariners last season under Tony Walmsley, was announced today by the MLS club as part of a coaching restructure at the club.
Hutchinson, a 19-year professional who made over 400 appearances in Australia, joins Ezra Hendrickson’s S2 staff as Assistant Coach.
“We are very pleased to bring John into our technical staff,” Hendrickson told the official Seattle Sounders site.
“In addition to his robust professional career as player, his coaching philosophy and leadership qualities fit very well in our organization.
“I look forward to seeing how he develops our young players and helps them grow on and off the field.”
Hutchinson, 37, made 268 total appearances and scored 18 goals for the Mariners including winning the Championship in 2013. He also earned 11 caps for Malta.
“Hutch” moves to Hendrickson’s S2 coaching staff, replacing Junior Gonzalez as Assistant Coach, with the former Sounder now managing fellow USL side Rio Grande Valley FC.
Seattle Sounders’ S2 reserve side play in the USL (United Soccer League), a professional league underneath the MLS.
One of the club’s owners is TV personality Drew Carey.
