Adelaide United defender Tarek Elrich will be sidelined until at least the second week of the finals after he was handed a two-game ban by the Match Review Panel.
The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Davidson and Alan Contini convened to consider the following incident from Round 26 of the Hyundai A-League:
1. The incident involving Tarek Elrich (Adelaide United FC) in or around the 33rd minute of Adelaide United FC-s match against Melbourne Heart FC on Friday evening. The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Tarek Elrich was issued with a direct red card. The MRP confirmed that Tarek Elrich will serve the Minimum Sanction of two (2) matches, being the Mandatory Match Suspension plus one (1) additional match.
The result means Elrich will miss Adelaide’s trip to Newcastle to open the final round of the regular season on Friday night. He will also miss the Reds’ first match in the 2013/14 Finals Series, which could be in Week 1 or Week 2 depending on where United finish after the weekend’s fixtures.
