Melbourne City star Ellie Carpenter has been named the January nominee for the Westfield W-League’s Young Footballer of the Year award.
The 19-year-old defender has been a revelation since joining City from Canberra United in the off-season and has been a key contributor in her side’s surge to the top of the ladder.
Carpenter started all three of City’s matches in January, which saw them defeat Brisbane Roar (2-0), Canberra United (4-0) and Newcastle Jets (2-0.
The Westfield Matildas right-back has played in a wing-back role under Rado Vidosic which has suited her tireless work and incisive runs to a tee.

Carpenter is no stranger to this award, having been crowned the Westfield W-League’s Young Player of the Year in each of the last two seasons.
If she can take it out again in 2019/20, she will become the first player to win a hat-trick of Young Player of the Year gongs.
The Cowra-born defender joins Kyra Cooney-Cross (Western Sydney Wanderers) and Indiah-Paige Riley (Brisbane Roar) as nominations for November and December respectively.
