Alistair Edwards has signed on for a further three years as Perth Glory manager, having made the most of his interim status since taking over from Ian Ferguson.
Perth announced the move this afternoon (4PM EST) at a press conference confirming they have been happy with the performance of Ferguson thus far in his tenure.
With two rounds left, his first task will be to lift the Glory into the top six of the Hyundai A-League and getting them into the finals.
Edwards played 93 games for the Glory between 1998 and 2004 and said he wants to return the club to its rightful place as the benchmark team in the competition.
“We’re the benchmark club of the competition – always have been,” Edwards said last week.
“It’s the reason why the A-League modelled everything on what Perth Glory used to be.
“The plan we’ve got in place is to bring that back to Perth Glory.”
Edwards was lauded for his efforts by FFA CEO David Gallop who was proud to see his former employee make the grade as a full-time A-League coach.
“Alistair was an astute Assistant National Technical Director and carefully nurtured young players with the Joeys. He made a significant contribution in three years with FFA,” said Gallop.
“That knowledge and commitment will now benefit Perth Glory and Alistair goes with our best wishes.
“I’m pleased that Glory will have a Perth boy in charge. Football clubs exist to represent the people of a city or region and Alistair’s local links can only help the Glory deepen their connections with the WA football community.”
