Brisbane Roar’s Matt McKay makes E-League history

Hyundai A-League goals might be rare for Matt McKay but the Brisbane Roar captain may just have found his niche as an elite E-League poacher.

In the opening match of the new landmark new eSports competition, James Williams (iCripsy) had midfielder McKay to thank for rounding off a 3-1 win over Melbourne Victory’s Xbox representative Mitch Austin (ALCATRAZZ_2025).

The strike made McKay the first Hyundai A-League player to register an E-League goal, against one of his professional football peers!

Central Coast Mariners speedster Trent Buhagiar later secured a vital draw for Matt Camilleri (StrawHat Camels), while Eric Bautheac was also on target in Roar’s PlayStation 4 fixture.

Both clubs secured aggregate victories over the two-legged format to join Western Sydney Wanderers, Sydney FC and Perth Glory on three points.
