A run of red-hot form late in the 2020/21 season helped Emily Gielnik come home strong to collect the Westfield W-League Golden Boot, presented at the Dolan Warren Awards on Wednesday night.
Gielnik received the award at the virtually-held awards night on Wednesday, 23 June after scoring 13 goals in 12 games for Brisbane Roar in the 2020/21 season.
Gielnik ended the 2020/21 campaign three goals ahead of Michelle Heyman (10) at the top of the Golden Boot standings. But, the Westfield Matildas star took her time to get started after going three games without a goal to open the campaign.
Gielnik went on to score in every game bar one to end the season, netting braces against Melbourne Victory, Perth Glory and Western Sydney Wanderers along with a hat-trick against Adelaide United in the penultimate game of the campaign.
Adding one more to her tally in Round 14 took Gielnik to 13 goals all up. Six strikes in her last four games helped Gielnik breeze past Heyman into the lead for the Golden Boot, which the Roar forward held until the end of the regular season.
