Dodd faces knee reconstruction

Perth Glory’s finals hopes have been dealt a huge blow, with Travis Dodd set to undergo a knee reconstruction.

Perth Glory’s finals hopes have been dealt a huge blow, with Travis Dodd set to undergo a knee reconstruction.

Dodd suffered the injury in a tackle late in Saturday’s dramatic win against Melbourne Victory.

The 33-year-old was immediately substituted and walked back to the rooms but scans on Monday morning showed he has torn his ACL and LCL ligaments.

Dodd will consult Perth Glory’s medical staff today and the surgeon later this week, but new Glory coach Alistair Edwards admitted it was a massive blow for the clb and player.

“It’s really sad news for Travis and the club,” Edwards said.

“Travis was in very good form and is an important member of our squad.

“Travis is well respected by all the players and a wonderful clubman.”

Glory could be without two of their recognised strikers for the crunch game against Adelaide United this weekend, with Shane Smeltz in doubt, following a head wound suffered while on international duty with New Zealand.
