City teenager joins Eredivisie club on loan

Melbourne City have confirmed exciting young midfielder Denis Genreau will be loaned out to Dutch Eredivisie side PEC Zwolle ahead of the 2018/19 season.

The move sees the 19-year-old re-unite with former City boss John van ‘t Schip, who is now the head coach at Zwolle.

Van ‘t Schip was the man that handed Genreau his Hyundai A-League debut back in 2016 against Perth Glory, with the France-born playmaker making a total of five appearances in the league for City.

He has also played a key role in the club’s National Youth League success over the past two seasons.

There is a real Melbourne City feel at Zwolle, with former interim boss Michael Valkanis also there as van ‘t Schip’s assistant.

“It is great that we have been able to add our selection to Denis just before the preparation starts,” Zwolle’s Technical director Gerard Nijkamp said.

“At the end of last season, he spent a week with us on an internship, in which he left a good impression.

“In Australia, people are also positive about their development. For example, our new assistant coach Michael Valkanis knows him well and in Denis he sees an added value for the team.”
