Former Sydney FC superstar Alessandro Del Piero says there’ll be room for sentiment when the team he’ll captain – the Foxtel A-League All Stars – play Juventus on August 10 in Sydney.
Speaking from Los Angeles the Italian champion told host broadcaster Channel 7 he was looking forward to coming back to a city that’s special to him.
And the prospect of beating a club where he won the lot over 19 glorious years is motivating the Italian superstar for one more virtuoso performance on Aussie soil.
“I’m very happy to come back to Sydney,” he said.
“Me and my family spent two wonderful years there [with Sydney FC].
“We have to show what we can do. We play for a win, for sure.”
The game will be a perfect opportunity for Hyundai A-League fans to see the World Cup winner one more time. It’s set to be a special day for the fans of both teams and Del Piero himself.
“Every moment we spent [in Sydney] was a good time. The weather is terrific, the people… me and my wife and my family remember Sydney with a big smile.”
Del Piero was presented with his number 10 Foxtel A-League All Stars jersey in LA.
The Foxtel A-League All Stars squad arrives in Wollongong for a training camp today (Friday) where they'll be based till mid next week. Del Piero is set to begin preparations with the team in the coming days.
