Alessandro Del Piero believes incoming Sydney FC coach Frank Farina is the right man to turn the club around.
Farina joins up with the Sky Blues on Thursday night ahead of Sunday’s match against Melbourne Heart.
It has been a dismal few months for Sydney, who have won just two of their past eight games and are bottom of the ladder.
Del Piero remembers Farina from his time with Serie A club Bari and is looking forward to working with the former Socceroos coach.
“For sure it will be a warm welcome,” Del Piero said.
“We hope we can do a great job with him.
“We need to improve, we need to win and we hope we can do that and build something for the rest of the season.”
Del Piero admits he isn’t used to losing, but says the players are determined to break their losing streak.
“I’ve never lost three in a row in my life, imagine what I’m feeling now,” Del Piero said.
“We need to play with passion, with heart first of all, and to win.
“We have lost a lot of games, but the team hasn’t lost its passion for the work, this is the most important thing.”
The Sky Blues haven’t won a game since caretaker coach Steve Corica took over from Ian Crook almost three weeks ago.
Corica admits it’s been tough filling in as head coach and he’s looking forward to returning to his position as assistant coach.
“It’s been a difficult time,” Corica said.
“I never wanted the job in the first place – it’s a big job, I think you need a lot of experience for this job.
“And I think Frank’s the man.”
