FFA CEO Ben Buckley says Sydney FC’s signing of Alessandro Del Piero will boost the Hyundai A-League’s global image.
Sydney FC-s signing of Italian superstar Alessandro Del Piero will significantly boost the Hyundai A-League-s global image and will accelerate the growth of the competition, according to FFA CEO Ben Buckley.
“I commend Sydney FC chairman Scott Barlow and his Board for having a bold vision and making it happen,” Buckley said.
“Sydney FC CEO Tony Pignata and the club-s adviser Lou Sticca deserve praise for their tenacity and ability to conclude the agreement.
“Undoubtedly, this signing will have an immediate impact on attendances, membership, TV ratings and corporate support for the club and the A-League
“All clubs will benefit when Alessandro comes to town. His stature in international football is well known, but it-s his desire to put back into the game and create a legacy in Australia that-s so impressive.
“The arrival of Del Piero will also impact on the technical quality of A-League, which was rated as an all-time high last season. This will ensure we remain in the elite tier of the top Asian professional leagues.
“Above and beyond the technical element, the A-League-s image and reputation will grow across Europe and Asia, in particular. While this impact is not as immediate as the other commercial measures, the benefits will ultimately flow to the brand value of the A-League, its clubs and our corporate partners.
“Season 8 of the Hyundai A-League is shaping up to be the best ever, with the introduction of Western Sydney Wanderers and now the arrival of a world-class superstar in Alessandro Del Piero. I know the fans can-t wait for the season kick off on 5 October.”
