After the excitement surrounding his arrival on Sunday, Del Piero met the press as a Sydney FC player for the first time, and said he was grateful of the reception at Sydney airport.
“The welcome at the airport yesterday was perfect,” Del Piero said.
“Most of my friends told me there were a lot of places closer than Sydney. I told them I chose the best place for this moment.
“The most important thing is to stay focused on this moment, the present. It is a big change for me.
The World Cup winner went on to say he was determined to make an impact in the Hyundai A-League and in football in Australia, by giving his all for his new club.
“First of all I am here for Sydney FC. This is my focus,” he said.
“I know there is a lot of expectation (of me). I love that. At Juventus I had to win every match, every day, every year.
“All my life I play for (the) win. I’m not here to pass time with my family.”
The Italian also admitted he and his family were looking forward to experiencing life Down Under.
“In Italy we play in -5 or -10 (temperatures) sometimes and I know it doesn’t happen here. This is good for me.
“All my family are excited about this trip. I think this will be two wonderful years for us.
“(For) my family the first priority is (to see) the kangaroos.”
