A double from in-form striker Wade Dekker headlined Melbourne City FC’s 4-2 Foxtel National Youth League win over Adelaide United on Saturday afternoon.
Dekker’s double either side of the half put Melbourne City FC in a commanding position as Hernan Espindola and Paulo Retre added to the score line.
The Reds found late goals through Dylan Smith and Ruon Tongyik but it wasn’t enough to claw back the deficit, seeing the home side run out comfortable winners.
The FNYL side continued their commanding possession game, moving the ball around well on the superb Lower Playing Fields pitch.
Senior players Massimo Murdocca and Paulo Retre both played in the Melbourne City FC engine room, providing the home side with an important mix of experience and creativity to supply the young and hungry forward line.
Dekker continued his hot-streak with Espindola supplying the striker with both goals in the 45th and 46th minutes, giving his side a 2-0 lead.
Espindola added a third ten minutes later, with a brilliant strike and Retre looked to have capped off the result after putting away a retaken penalty, sending his side four goals to the good.
The Reds’ late surge troubled Melbourne City, with Smith bustling through to pinch one back and Tongyik adding a second soon after but Melbourne City FC shut up shop and secured all three points to move temporarily to the top of the FNYL ladder.
The FNYL side’s next match is away to the Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday 7 December, kick-off 11am. The side’s next home match is against Perth Glory on Sunday 21 December.
