Jamie Young had to force his way into Robbie Fowler’s plans and now the Brisbane Roar goalkeeper has inked a new deal.
Young started the first six Hyundai A-League matches of Fowler’s tenure on the Brisbane bench as New Zealander Max Crocombe was handed the Roar’s number one jersey.
The 34-year-old earned his opportunity against Central Coast Mariners in Round 8 and, following the 2-0 win, Young has not looked back, starting the last five for the Queenslanders.
Young has been rewarded for his form with a new contract, extending his stay in the River City to the end of next season ‘and beyond’, according to the club.
“To secure my future is something that puts my mind at ease and to sign for Brisbane Roar again, the only club I’ve played for in the [Hyundai] A-League, is a privilege and an honour,” Young told brisbaneroar.com.au
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed coming in and training every day here in Brisbane. There were times where I’ve trained on cold winter’s nights in England and here I get to train out in the sun with guys I really enjoy being around.”

“Signing for this Club is one of the best things I’ve ever done.”
The two-time Gary Wilkins medal winner, handed out to Roar’s player of the year, was named in the Hyundai A-League Round 12 Team of the Week for his performance in the 1-1 draw with Newcastle Jets.
Young’s return to Brisbane’s starting line-up has coincided with an upturn in fortunes for Fowler’s squad, with the team now sitting three points off the Hyundai A-League Finals Series places.

“I would like to thank Head Coach Robbie Fowler and the staff at the Club for their advice and for offering me this opportunity again,” Young added.
“I would like to particularly thank [Goalkeeping Coach] Jason Kearton who originally brought me to the Club.
“I would also like to thank our supporters. They have been so good to me and the relationship I have with them personally is something I will never forget.”
