De Vanna the latest star to Join NPLW Victoria

Westfield W-League Goal the Year winner, Lisa De Vanna, has signed with South Melbourne FC for the remainder of the 2018 NPLW Victoria Season.

The Sydney FC and Westfield Matildas star becomes the latest Westfield W-League player to put pen to paper in Victoria, joining nearly two-dozen players who were contracted in the Westfield W-League 2017/18 Season.

The announcement comes days after De Vanna won Westfield W-League Goal of the Year and ran third in the Julie Dolan Medal.

De Vanna returns to South Melbourne after linking up with the club in 2017, in a campaign that culminated with South Melbourne being crowned 2017 NPLW Victoria Champions.

NAB Young Footballer of the Year nominee Melina Ayres will partner De Vanna upfront, with the duo looking to best the 57 goals they combined for last season. Ayres already has already found the back of the net nine times this season, helping South Melbourne sit in third place through nine rounds, seven points behind competition front-runners Calder United. 

South Melbourne has a strong Westfield W-League presence, with De Vanna and Ayres flanked by Melbourne Victory’s Tiffany Eliadis, Alexandra Gummer and Beth Mason-Jones and Melbourne City’s Sofia Sakalis.

Melbourne Victory and Westfield Matildas defender Laura Alleway recently signed with Geelong Galaxy United, scoring in her maiden appearance on Saturday as the Galaxy beat Bayside United 3-2.
