The Mariners’ first victory in the Hyundai A-League isn’t far off, predicts Danny De Silva, who pointed to two shots that hit the post late in his side’s 1-1 draw with Melbourne Victory on Sunday.
“We played really well today. We obviously had some really good chances to finish the game, but this is football,” De Silva told Fox Sports.
“It’s super frustrating. Especially when you hit the post.
“‘Kabsy” [Kwabenah Appiah] came on [as as sub] and did a great job for us.
“But we should’ve won the game… we’re happy we didn’t lose I guess and we move on to next week.”
De Silva again caught the eye, and battled through some heavy tackles to be one of the more influential Mariners.
And De Silva was happy with a more solid defensive shape by his team.
“We made it hard for them to pass through us and they score from a free kick and not from open play.
“We worked a lot on it this week but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be tonight.”
The Mariners, in ninth spot on the ladder, next face tenth-placed Brisbane Roar away on Sunday.
John Aloisi’s men like the Mariners are searching for a first win of the season.
