Brisbane Roar interim coach Darren Davies says his side have endured a hectic past few days after the resignation of John Aloisi.
The ex-Melbourne Victory assistant coach took the reins for Roar’s 2-1 defeat to Sydney FC on Saturday following Aloisi’s decision to step down from his post on Friday.
Davies, 40, revealed the departure was a tough pill for Brisbane to swallow.
“It’s obviously come as a shock to everybody in the football club first and foremost, because it’s very disappointing to lose somebody who’s contributed so much to the football club over the last three and a half years,” he said.
“And everything he’s given has been outstanding and really needs recognition.
“The playing group was low, but obviously we had to pick them up fairly quickly and look to perform the following night against Sydney, which I think we did.
“There was a reaction from the boys.”

The games are coming thick and fast for the Roar, as the Summer of Heroes sees them play six games in January.
Brisbane have lost five games in a row since their solitary victory in the 2018/19 Season where they beat Melbourne City 2-0 in Round 5.
Davies didn’t appear to be fazed by the influx of fixtures and negative form, calling up on everyone in the club to regroup and back each other during the testing time.
“I spoke to the group before the Sydney game, everybody has to contribute — everybody,” he said.
“Not just the playing group — it’s the football department — everybody has to get behind everybody else now.
“Starting from the supporters, the club, the football department, the players — everybody needs to stick together now.
“I’m aware we’ve lost a number of games consecutively so in the initial process we need to turn that around tomorrow night.”
