Luis Nani is already playing for Melbourne Victory but could we see another Portuguese superstar move to the Isuzu UTE A-League?
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United future is up in the air following a controversial interview with Piers Morgan this week, with the football phenomenon tipped to leave Old Trafford.
A five-time Ballon d’Or winner who is regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, Ronaldo has a connection to Australia as his grandparents lived in Western Australia.
Australian Professional Leagues (APL) CEO Danny Townsend was asked if he had been in the ear of Ronaldo’s former United and Portugal team-mate – Nani – regarding a blockbuster move Down Under.
“We haven’t been in Nani’s ear but we’ve certainly registered our interest in bringing him to Australia,” Townsend told SportsFM 91.3.
“It’s obviously a long shot but we certainly have a proposition here in Australia for him to consider.
We’re in dialogue and we’ll see where that goes.
Ronaldo is Real Madrid and Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer.
The 37-year-old has won a European Championship with Portugal, five Champions League titles, three Premier League trophies, two LaLiga crowns and a pair of Serie A honours among other honours.
Ronaldo has previously been linked with Chelsea and a big-money move to Saudi Arabia.
