Covic hails Mooy

Western Sydney Wanderers FC keeper Ante Covic has hailed young midfielder Aaron Mooy as a player of great potential for the red-and-black.

Covic admits the 21-year-old has stood out in training, and suggests the former Bolton and St. Mirren player could be Wanderers FC’s midfield general.

“I-d never seen Aaron Mooy play before, but I had heard about his talents and ability and he shows great composure for a young kid,” Covic said.

“He will be really important for us in the midfield and for someone I hadn-t seen before he is really ticking all the boxes.”

The experienced keeper also said the new squad are being drilled hard by inaugural coach Tony Popovic.

“Poppa has given us a plan and he is sticking to that and on the field he pinpoints the things he wants done, he wants perfection and if we can get to that point where we continue to demand more from ourselves then that-s a good thing for the playing group,” he said.

“I-m feeling sharper everyday and I-m really looking forward to when I-m up to 100 per cent strength and I am ready to go in two months time.”

While the training is going well, the true measure will be how well the side goes when they make their Hyundai A-League debut, and how they handle the enormous pressure of representing football-s heartland.

“There-s always pressure, we-re covering a big region here, we want to get a lot of kids involved in football and the eyes are going to be on us this season, a lot of people are probably looking at us to fail in a way but we have come with the mentality that we will give this league a run for its money.”
