Melbourne Heart will be without Simon Colosimo for the Hyundai A-League Elimination Final against Perth Glory at nib Stadium after the veteran defender injured his hamstring.

Colosimo, 33, injured his hamstring during training on Wednesday, and despite hopes he would recover in time, Heart coach John van ‘t Schip revealed the former Socceroo would not make the trip to Perth.

Admitting Colosimo-s absence is a massive blow, van ‘t Schip said youngster Brendan Hamill would be elevated to the starting line-up in his place, creating another vacancy for a fringe player to enter the fold, with side-s able to name five players on the bench during the finals series.

“It is a big loss and we can make a big deal about it,” van ‘t Schip said.

“But Brendan and Curtis (Good) showed that they are capable of playing at a very high level and now they have to show it together. It’s a great challenge.

“We hope if we go through he (Simon) can be available for the next game but first we have to make sure we win this game.”
