More than 35 Hyundai A-League, Westfield W-League and National Youth League players have today become Club Champions following their completion of a two day Alcohol Education and Mentoring program in Sydney.

More than 35 Hyundai A-League, Westfield W-League and National Youth League players have today become Club Champions following their completion of a two day Alcohol Education and Mentoring program in Sydney.
Selected to become part of the Federal Government-s national register of Club Champions the course aimed to promote responsible attitudes and practices to alcohol through leadership, education and support from players to Football Federation Australia (FFA) National Teams, Hyundai A-League, Westfield W-League, National Youth League, State Institute of Sport/State Academy of Sport teams and community football teams.
The two day program included significant professional development for attending players with the program being provided to enable players to deliver specific education programs, mentoring and messages on alcohol education to a wide a varied group of fellow players and the community in general.
Hyundai A-League captains including Central Coast Mariners- Alex Wilkinson, Adelaide United-s Travis Dodd and Melbourne Victory women-s team and Westfield Matildas captain Melissa Barbieri all took part in the course that included players from all 11 Australian Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League teams.
“As a high profile athlete I look forward to helping people increase their knowledge surrounding alcohol and the affects it has on the body and the mind,” said Barbieri.
“I think to be able to clearly and effectively communicate to a group, especially to those upcoming athletes dealing with peer pressure and the pressure to fit in, will be of enormous benefit to future generations of footballers whether they go onto the elite level or not.”
