Clayton Zane to leave Newcastle Jets

Newcastle Jets assistant coach Clayton Zane is set to depart the club after over eight years of service.

Zane, 42, will leave the Hyundai A-League team in mid-October after his the end of his contractual obligations to become to new Technical Director at Northern NSW Football.

“This club has been a big part of my life for a number of years, I grew up in Newcastle and played my first professional football with the Breakers,” Zane said.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to work alongside a number of fantastic people here at the Jets since returning in a coaching capacity and making the decision to leave wasn’t an easy one.

“The squad is a good one and I’m confident that [head coach] Ernie [Merrick] and the boys will enjoy success this upcoming season.”

Zane has been part of Newcastle’s coaching staff since 2011, initially joining as the club’s Westfield W-League coach.

He enjoyed a stint as youth team coach and two spells as interim head coach, assuming the role of assistant coach in 2015.

The former striker – who played in Denmark, Norway and Belgium – will leave the Jets in mid-October after the end of his contract.
