Clayton Taylor earns January/February Boost Mobile Young Footballer of the Year nomination

Newcastle Jets midfielder Clayton Taylor has earned the January/February nomination for Boost Mobile Young Footballer of the Year in the Isuzu UTE A-League.

The 21-year-old has scored five goals this season and has provided two assists, playing a key role in Newcastle’s surge into finals contention off the back of three-straight wins leading into Round 22.

The Isuzu UTE A-League Boost Mobile Young Footballer of the Year award is an annual prize awarded to the competition’s best young player from either Australia or New Zealand aged 23 and under; this season, players born no earlier than January 1 2001 are eligible for the award.

Taylor was named Boost Mobile Young Footballer of the Year January/February nominee via a panel appointed by the Australian Professional Leagues (APL).

The panel features an assortment of media representatives and technical football experts, who vote on a 3-2-1 basis at the conclusion of each nominated monthly period throughout the season.

Taylor joins former Macarthur FC winger Jed Drew (January), Adelaide United striker Archie Goodwin (December), Melbourne Victory winger Nishan Velupillay (October/November) as the third player nominated for the award so far this season.

The Jets midfielder is next in action this weekend as his side host league leaders Auckland FC in a battle between two of the league’s most in-form sides.
