City’s Caltex Socceroo cleared to resume training

Melbourne City defender Ivan Franjic has been cleared by medical staff to resume full training after recovering from an inflammatory condition.

Franjic was diagnosed with the condition in August and has been at a limited training capacity.

City Head Coach John van’t Schip confirmed the news to media on Thursday prior to the team’s final session before the A-League season opener.

Wellington Phoenix forward Blake Powell shields the ball from City's Ivan Franjic.

Van’t Schip indicated the Socceroos full back will resume with the first team and be guided by the Club’s medical and fitness staff to gradually build his training volume and intensity.

“Ivan Franjic is back so he’s cleared to train with the group which is good but he’s not going to be with the squad (this week),” van’t Schip said.

“He needs a pre-season for himself now but the good thing is that he’s cleared to join in again.”
