City to face Jets in Ballarat friendly

Melbourne City FC will continue preparations for its Westfield FFA Cup Quarter Final tie with a friendly match against Hyundai A-League side Newcastle Jets in Ballarat on Sunday 18 September 2016.

Building upon the Club’s pre-season camp in Townsville, John van’t Schip’s side will travel to Morshead Park – home of NPL Victoria club Ballarat Red Devils – for another testing encounter against A-League opposition.

Ballarat Red Devils Director of Football Andrew Burgess said the club was delighted to have the opportunity to showcase the Hyundai A-League to the Ballarat region.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for football supporters in Western Victoria to get up close and personal with some of the biggest names in Australian Football,” Mr Burgess said.

Bruno Fornaroli scored an incredible 25 goals in his maiden season in the Hyundai A-League.

“We expect a crowd of 4000 plus supporters to attend Ballarat for the game, which in turn contributes a significant economic benefit for the city and region – not forgetting of course that we also get to see the best footballers in Australia on show in our own backyard”.

Both clubs will come into the clash on the back of respective pre-season camps, with Newcastle currently in the midst of a 12-day tour of China.

City will commence its week-long pre-season tour of Townsville next week, where the Club will fine-tune preparations for the upcoming season with matches against Wellington Phoenix and NPL Queensland outfit Northern Fury FC.

Both matches will take place at the Townsville Sports Reserve.
