Kyah Simon’s effort for City was tipped over by Roar’s keeper Mackenzie Arnold, as City pressed hard for a goal.
There was a late shout for a penalty but Brisbane survived thanks in large part to Claire Polkinghorne who was immense throughout.
In the first half, Steph Catley had a long-range effort that almost deceived Arnold.
Brisbane’s Hayley Raso forced Lydia Williams to make a good stop from her rasping drive also in the first half.
The best chance of the game fell Melbourne City's way.
However, it was not to be their day.
